Our story

Tull Stories is a cinema exhibition and film distribution agency.

We help independent cinemas, arts and culture organisations, film festivals and film distributors on projects spanning independent film releases, film booking and programming, audience development, fundraising and more.

Our film release projects are a diverse mix of documentary, world cinema, outdoor/adventure documentaries and independent film.

Tull Stories is led by UK cinema consultant and John Brabourne awardee Jonny Tull.

Jonny has over 25 years of working the UK film exhibition sector and has been working in film distribution since 2017.

Jonny says:

“I am passionate about audiences coming together for great cinema experiences, and feeling the power of film. My background as a marketing and programming specialist in film exhibition has given me a wealth of understanding about why audiences visit the cinema – and why they may not.

“Hailing from a working-class background, I know what the barriers between audiences and cinema may be. I want to help cinemas shatter those barriers, and my work is all about opening up opportunities to celebrate diverse stories and voices and provide access to cinema for everyone.”

Tull Stories’ recent projects have included researching the impact of COVID-19 on the UK film exhibition sector and audience development planning for a range of cinemas; devising audience strategies for in-development feature films; creating growth strategies for cultural venues and festivals; and the distribution of feature films and documentaries into the UK market.

Jonny served as Chair of the Board of Trustees at Queen’s Hall Arts in Hexham, Northumberland; is a member of the Arts Marketing Association, an advisor for the BFI Film Audience Network’s Advice scheme and teaches programming and marketing on the Exhibition Cultures module of Newcastle University’s MA in Film Studies.
