UK distribution and exhibition agency Tull Stories has acquired Joke Olthaar’s award-winning experimental alpine film Berg and Lucas Millard and Kate Stryker’s documentary Baato for 2023 release.
The UK boutique company will release Olthaar’s Berg, an experiential, experimental film about the Triglav mountain in Slovenia under its expanding Adventure Club release strand in early 2023.
Stryker and Millard’s documentary Baato follows a Nepalese family as they head from their isolated village to the nearest market, 300km away, whilst encountering modernisation of the route along the way.
Baato will be released in Q2 2023.
Tull Stories’ 2023 releases include Jon Sanders’ (A Change In The Weather) A Clever Woman, which screened to acclaim at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival. Sanders’ BIFA-longlisted drama stars Josie Lawrence, Tanya Myers and James Northcote and is dated for March. A Clever Woman‘s release is followed by Greg Cruttwell’s Paladino d’Oro-winning UK football refereeing documentary In The Middle, which will be released later in the spring.
Jonny Tull, Founder of Tull Stories said:
“We’re really looking forward to taking these bold, cinematic films to audiences across the UK and Ireland. Cinema can carry us away to different places and perspectives with just the purchase of a ticket. Tull Stories comes from a background of cinema exhibition and a love of the collective experience. Playing our films in cinema screens is what we’re about and we can’t wait to see how these terrific films are received.”
André Schreuders, Cinematographer of Berg, said:
“After a successful prize-winning, worldwide tour at international film festivals, we are delighted that Tull Stories is bringing Berg to UK cinemas. When experienced on the big screen the transcendental power of Berg’s black & white landscape images and mesmerising soundscape will give audiences a deep viewing experience.”
Lucas Millard, Co-director of Baato said:
“It’s a thrill to have the opportunity to play Baato on screens across the UK. The theatrical setting fits the cinematic scope of our film and lends a certain grandeur to this experiential journey through the Himalayas.”
Tull Stories has two films on release at the moment: Minna Dutton’s award-winning Finnish documentary BIG vs SMALL and artist-filmmaker Matt Hulse’s documentary exploration of punk, politics and the artistic process, Sound For The Future.
