The project
The Oban Phoenix Cinema team was looking to develop the Cinema’s audience for foreign language, documentary and arthouse film and broaden the programme, without compromising the successes of the venue’s existing outputs.
The solution
Jonny met with team members to discuss the strengths of the programme and the opportunities that the Phoenix team had to offer more strands of film programme during daytimes. We identified possible ways to enhance the Cinema’s programme and how the Phoenix team might best maximise income and increase ticket sales through analysis of box office performance and a better understanding of the ebb and flow of day-to-day business.
The result
The Cinema programme was developed to include more specialised film and more opportunities were given to staff to strategise. Tull Stories has since been re-engaged to undertake audience survey and analysis work and provide staff mentoring and support.
One of the reasons we wanted Jonny to come to Oban was because we knew he had a great deal of experience with both programming and marketing. We were not disappointed.
Jonny thoroughly interrogated us (in a nice way) about the cinema and how we chose our films and what kind of marketing we did. From there he was able to see how we could improve our cinema experience for our customers. One of the areas we wanted to improve in was specialised and foreign language films as we felt that area was underserved in our community. Jonny took us on a logical journey beginning with how to start our marketing campaigns and the importance of good data.
I would highly recommend Jonny if you are struggling with your audience numbers, if you want to diversify your programme or even if you just want a bit of advice.
