Riverside Studios, London
Audience development, programming & membership advice
“Through advice sessions with Jonny our venue has a set of clear, logical and achievable project goals…I feel we are moving onwards and upwards!”
Via the BFI Film Audience Network Advice scheme, Riverside Studios needed advice in the areas of programming, audience development, membership development, data collection and marketing.
A series of discussion sessions devised a route to audiences, unpicked potential barriers to attendance, and set the tone for marketing/communications and programme. Particular attention was paid to the need to better entrench this relatively new venue into the heart of Riverside Studios’ local community.
A set of SMART objectives to give Riverside Studios clear, logical and achievable project goals for data collection, pricing, audience development, marketing and memberships. The organisation has since removed pricing barriers for young people, created a new membership scheme for cinema and established a new programming strand for older people.
Jonny has been a very friendly and approachable guide throughout a very challenging first year for Riverside, one where the difficulty of building a new audience after 5 years of being away were compounded by the COVID pandemic.
Through advice sessions with Jonny our venue has a set of clear, logical and achievable project goals relating to running audience surveying, trialling young people’s low price points and other schemes, and cinema membership design and marketing to work through to see if we can reach more audiences.
Its been a morale boost that such advice is available, as the film world can be very opaque and fast-moving most if not all of the time, leaving you just struggling to work day to day.
I feel we are moving onwards and upwards!
